Making Tax Digital
Everything you need to know

Making Tax Digital, or MTD is probably the biggest change in tax and accountancy ever seen in the UK. It is likely to apply to you from April 1st 2026, but you really do need to start planning well before that date, and ideally you should begin now.
MTD is the transition to digital tax records in place of the traditional methods. Essentially this means having to keep your records in a digital (computer) format but it also means submitting 6 online Digital Tax Returns for every business, every year. This is mandatory for most businesses and landlords from April 1st 2026.

I can set up your Digital Accounting Software initially, I can maintain your records, submit your returns or help you by showing you how to do this yourself.
Remember under MTD there will be at least 6 submissions a year for the most basic businesses, including landlords.
If you prefer to use Excel rather than accounting software like Quickbooks, Xero, Sage or FreeAgent, then just ask me to send you my easy to use Excel Accounting System with detailed instructions.
It is ideal for self-employed businesses with or without VAT, or a business bank account.
It can be used for Limited Companies and does reconcile the bank but is a cash accounting system so does not produce a balance sheet or enable trade debtors or trade creditors. It is all the accounting software you might ever need and it is yours for free, forever.
